Education
We are keen to engage young people (whether they have an interest in theatre or not) with the power of stories, the enjoyment of performing and the ways that theatre can enrich their lives.
Within Dumbshow we have a range of experienced practitioners; boasting qualified teachers, trained actors and directors, and accomplished workshop leaders. As a company we continue to run workshops for nursery children, primary and secondary school students, and young people within further education.
One of our current projects, Oedipus: a love story, grew out of a passion to create an exciting and engaging piece of theatre for young people that would not simply serve an educational purpose in the traditional Theatre in Education sense, but would stand alone as a fresh and powerful piece of drama for any audience. We are currently touring Oedipus: a love story to a number of educational establishments before heading up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We are now fully-booked for our pre-Edinburgh tour but are taking bookings to continue touring after the festival.
Dumbshow will be a company in residence at the International Youth Arts Festival in Kingston in July and will be developing our new play Roar in that environment while running workshops and events for young festival goers.
Working with young people is all about play. It’s fun, energising and inspiring and it feeds into the work we create.
